A Part of Rotary International
The Dunedin club is part of a worldwide organization that consists of more than 1.2 million business and professional men and women in more than 31,000 clubs in 163 countries. Over the last 10 years, Rotary has been growing at the rate of one club every 15 hours. Like every Rotary Club, the Dunedin group is a SERVICE club. Rotary International's motto is "Service Above Self". Our club serves the city, the community, the state, and the world through a variety of projects.

A Business and Professional Club
The Dunedin Rotary Club has existed for over fifty years for business and professional men and women who live or work in the area. Many of Dunedin's active leaders are members. The luncheon meetings are an excellent place to stay abreast of what is happening in the Suncoast Area and share business and professional experiences with friendly, interesting people. The weekly meetings, held at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Alternate US 19 at Albert St. in Dunedin at 12:15 pm on Tuesdays, generally include fellowship time, a catered buffet luncheon, some Club business and a short program. Social activities and club projects occasionally substitute for regular meetings. There’s a weekly bulletin and a photo directory to help new members feel at home.

A Local Service Club
Above all else, the Dunedin Rotary Club is dedicated to serving the community and the world. Each year the club raises about $20,000 for support and betterment of the community. Two major fundraising events are a July 4 “Family Bash on Honeymoon Island” and November’s “Home for the Holidays” at the Harborview Center in Clearwater. There is probably no “good cause” in the area that hasn’t been helped by the Rotary Club. In selecting organizations to support, we try to help the youth and the old, the healthy and the handicapped, small groups and large organizations.

In addition to money contributions, the club has provided hours of labor each year for a variety of projects. The club has contributed to city street-scaping, painted houses, adopted a street, and sponsored blood donations through the Red Cross.

The Dunedin Rotary sponsors an Interact Club at Dunedin High School, donates books to local elementary schools honoring its guest speakers, supports local Boy and Girl Scouts, Little League baseball, etc.

An International Service Club
By supporting the Rotary Foundation, the Dunedin club works to help the world’s needy and to further world peace and understanding. Rotary Foundation invests over $35,000,000 each year in humanitarian and educational projects. Every penny donated to the Foundation is spent for its intended purpose—none is spent on overhead. The Dunedin Club has assisted with international projects in India, Croatia, and Haiti in recent years and tries to have at least one world service project each year.

A Supporter of World Health
One of the exciting projects of Rotary International is the Polio Plus program. When the United Nations and World Health Organization couldn’t handle the project, Rotary International stepped in with a goal of eradicating polio by the end of 2005. This year alone, Rotarians raised $100,000,000 and we have reduced Polio cases from 4000 per day in 1987 to less than 2000 per YEAR in 2002. Only a few countries remain to finally eradicate Polio, Rotary’s 100th Anniversary goal!

A Contributor to World Understanding
Through its contribution to the Rotary Foundation, the Dunedin Club promotes world peace and understanding. Rotary operates the largest international exchange programs in existence and its scholarship programs have the quality of the Fulbright Programs but are even more extensive.

Rotary’s exchange and scholarship programs include summer and year-long exchanges for high school students, eight-week exchanges for young business and professional persons, and graduate scholarships for study abroad. Over 10,000 young people participate in these programs each year. In the recent past the Dunedin Rotary Club has had their candidates selected numerous times for exchange programs and international study scholarships. It has been the host club for a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar from Venezuela.
And Much More

In a brief description of the club, it is impossible to describe all of the accomplishments and activities of the Dunedin Rotary Club and Rotary International. If you are so inclined, the club provides outstanding fellowship and numerous opportunities to give back to the community in a variety of ways.

Rotary is a remarkable organization with an enormous ability to make the world a better place for all of us. If you would like to join us or learn more about Rotary, please make your interest known to any member of the Club.
