Rotary Foundation

The District Rotary Foundation Chair, Charlie Rogers, discussed the Rotary International Foundation and its work.

Rotary Foundation's Mission and Financials

Charlie discussed the Rotary Foundation's mission, history, and financial performance. He highlighted the foundation's 4-star rating from Charity Navigator and its recognition as the world's outstanding foundation by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Charlie emphasized the foundation's focus on seven areas of global need and its commitment to sustainability. He encouraged Rotarians to contribute to the foundation, noting that 91 cents of every dollar goes directly to projects and programs. Charlie also mentioned the Paul Harris Society and the endowment fund as ways for Rotarians to contribute. He concluded by discussing the foundation's goal to raise $500 million this year and its ongoing efforts to combat polio.

Polio Eradication Project Progress Update

Charlie discussed the progress of the polio eradication project, highlighting the significant reduction in cases from 350,000 a year in 1985 to just two endemic countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan, in 2023. Despite a recent increase in cases, the detection methods have improved, and the governments of both countries are now cooperating with the project. The goal remains to fulfill the promise made to the world's children to eradicate polio, with the next milestone being three years with no reported cases.

Rotary Foundation Matching Contributions Discussed

Charlie discussed the Rotary Foundation and emphasized the district's matching contributions for Paul Harris fellowships and polio eradication efforts. He encouraged club members to donate and highlighted the district's generosity in matching contributions. Charlie also recognized Joan Gutierrez and David Bramley for becoming Paul Harris fellows.
